Russian Point Solitaire
How to play Russian Point
Russian Point is a one-deck Yukon solitaire with piles built down in suit and a stock that deals one card face up onto every pile at a time.
Seven piles built down in suit, with a stock that deals a card onto every pile.
The goal of Russian Point
Move all 52 cards onto the four foundations, one for each suit, building each from Ace up to King.
How to set up Russian Point
Russian Point is played with one deck. Seven tableau piles are dealt with 0, 2, 4, 6, 4, 2 and 0 face-down cards and one face-up card on top of each, 25 cards in all. The other 27 cards form the stock.
Russian Point rules
Tableau piles build down one rank at a time in the same suit. Any face-up card can move onto a pile whose top card it builds on, and every card lying on it moves with it, whether or not those cards are in order.
Only a King can fill an empty pile, together with any cards lying on it. When a move leaves a face-down card on top of its pile, that card is turned face up.
Click the stock to deal one card face up onto every pile, from left to right, empty piles included. The stock deals three full rows, and its last deal puts six cards on the first six piles.
Each foundation builds up by suit from the Ace to the King. A card on a foundation never comes back into play.
Click a card to play it: a top card goes to its foundation if it fits, otherwise the card and everything on it go onto the first pile it builds on, and a King into the first empty pile. Drag a card to choose where it goes yourself. With Autoplay off in Settings, only a drag moves a card.
How to win at Russian Point
You win when all 52 cards are on the foundations. Once the stock is empty, no card is face down and every pile is in descending order, Auto complete, on by default in Settings, moves the remaining cards up for you. The game is stuck when no card can move and the stock is empty.
Russian Point strategy tips
Each deal from the stock covers every pile, so before you deal, make the moves that free a card you need, or a new card will lie on top of it.
Piles build in suit, so each card below a King has only one card it can go on. Watch where that card lies before you bury it.
A card does not have to be on top of its pile to move. If the card you need is buried, move the card lying directly on it, and everything above goes along.
Russian Point questions and answers
How do you play Russian Point solitaire?
Deal seven piles with 0, 2, 4, 6, 4, 2 and 0 face-down cards and one face-up card on each, and keep the other 27 cards as the stock. Build the piles down in suit, moving any face-up card with every card lying on it, fill an empty pile only with a King, and deal a card onto every pile from the stock when you need more. You win when all 52 cards are on the four foundations, built up by suit from Ace to King.
How does the stock work in Russian Point?
Each click deals one card face up onto every pile from left to right, even onto an empty pile. The 27 cards make three deals of seven and a last deal of six onto the first six piles, and the stock is never turned over again.
What is the difference between Russian Point and Yukon?
Russian Point deals only 25 cards to the piles, one face up on each, and keeps 27 back as a stock that deals a card onto every pile. Its piles build down in suit rather than in alternating colours. Moving any face-up card with everything on it, and filling an empty pile only with a King, are Yukon's rules.
Can every Russian Point deal be won?
No. Tested on 100 shuffled Russian Point deals, the game's solver proved 62 winnable and 1 lost in the search a hint gets, and could not settle the other 37. Building its list of 500 proved deals took 785 shuffles, and 65 of the deals tried were proved lost. Switch on Winnable in the menu beside New deal and each new board comes from that list. The Hint button asks the same solver for a winning line before it suggests a move.
Is there a daily Russian Point game?
Yes. Russian Point has a daily board, the same deal for everyone that day, dealt the way a Winnable board is. You need to be logged in to play it.
