Belote games

Choose trumps with a partner; the jack and nine of trumps rank highest.

All four are Belote with a computer partner against two computer players, on 32 cards where the jack and nine of trumps rank highest. The Bulgarian game bids No trumps and All trumps as well as the four suits and is played to 151. French Belote takes trumps from a turned card and goes to 501. In Coinche you bid points from 80 to 160 on a suit, No trumps or All trumps and play to 1000, and in Croatian Bela, where the dealer must name trumps, to 1001.

About these games

Every ruleset deals eight cards to each of four players, and a suit contract is worth 162 points, 152 in the cards and 10 for the last trick. Declarations such as a tierce, a quarte or four jacks add to a side's total, and the king and queen of trumps in one hand are worth 20. What changes is how trumps are chosen, when you must play a trump, and what the side that chose them has to reach.

French Belote has the simplest bidding, since only the turned card's suit, or another suit in the second round, can be trumps. The Bulgarian game adds No trumps, All trumps and doubling, and divides every total by ten. Coinche has all three as well: you judge how many points your side can take, and a coinche from the other side doubles what the hand is worth. In Bela each player calls once, the dealer must name a suit, and the callers need more than half of the hand's points.
