Spades games

Bid your tricks with a partner; spades are always trump.

Both games are Spades with a computer partner against two computer players, with the same bidding, nil and bag rules. The classic game is played to 500 points, long enough for bags to pile up. The short game ends at 300, where one nil or blind nil can decide it.

About these games

In Spades you sit opposite a computer partner, and your two bids are added together, leaving out any nil, into one contract for your side. Each hand is 13 tricks with spades always trump. Bidding accurately matters more than taking tricks: a side that falls short loses 10 points per trick bid, and tricks taken beyond the contract become bags, which cost 100 points once a side has collected ten.

The classic game to 500 rewards steady bidding over many hands and is the better place to learn. The short game to 300 is decided in fewer hands, where a single nil worth 100 or a blind nil worth 200 can swing the result. Blind nil is offered only to a side that trails by 100 points or more at the deal.

Both games are free in your browser with no sign-in. Signed in, you can open an online table, choose 500 or 300 points and send its code to a friend: the first person to join sits across from you as your partner, and bots can take the seats nobody fills.
