Mrs. Mop Solitaire
How to play Mrs. Mop
Mrs. Mop is a Spider solitaire with no stock, in which all 104 cards are dealt face up into thirteen piles of eight before the first move.
Spider with all 104 cards dealt face up into thirteen piles and no stock.
The goal of Mrs. Mop
Build eight runs of thirteen cards, each from King down to Ace in one suit. A finished run leaves the table at once, and the game is won when all eight are gone.
How to set up Mrs. Mop
Mrs. Mop is played with 104 cards, two packs' worth, shuffled together, and every one of them is dealt face up into thirteen piles of eight. There is no stock and no face-down card.
Mrs. Mop rules
A card can be laid on any card one rank higher, whatever its suit, so the Seven of hearts may go on the Eight of clubs. A King is never laid on an Ace.
A pile's top card can always move. A face-up card lower down moves together with the cards above it only when they run down from it in one suit, each one rank below the card under it. An empty pile takes any card or any run that may move.
When thirteen cards of one suit run from King down to Ace on top of a pile, they leave the table at once for a foundation.
Click a face-up card to move it with the run above it onto a pile whose top card is one rank higher, of its own suit first, else into the first empty pile. Drag a card to choose its place yourself.
How to win at Mrs. Mop
You win when all eight runs are off the table. There is no stock and no redeal, so every move is made with the cards already dealt. There is no auto complete either, since finished runs already leave on their own.
Mrs. Mop strategy tips
Every card is face up from the start, so look over all thirteen piles before the first move and plan where each suit's runs can come together.
With eight cards in every pile, the card you need may lie under seven others. Count the moves it takes to reach it before you start digging, and dig first where the cards on top already run in one suit and can move together.
Each of the eight Kings can move only into an empty pile, since no card ranks above it. A King already at the bottom of a pile is where a run can be built without ever moving it, so build on that pile rather than emptying it.
An empty pile takes any card or run, and with no stock there is no deal to fill it for, so keep it free for sorting mixed cards back into suits.
Mrs. Mop questions and answers
How do you play Mrs. Mop solitaire?
Deal all 104 cards face up into thirteen piles of eight. Lay a card on any card one rank higher, move runs of one suit together, and use an empty pile for any card or run. You win when eight runs of thirteen, each from King down to Ace in one suit, have left the table.
What is the difference between Mrs. Mop and Spider?
Mrs. Mop deals all 104 cards face up into thirteen piles and has no stock, so nothing is hidden and no more cards arrive. Building, moving and the runs that leave the table are the same as in Spider.
Can every Mrs. Mop deal be won?
No. With every card face up and no stock, nothing is left to chance once the cards are dealt, and the game's solver has found Mrs. Mop deals that are lost from the first move. Of 851 shuffled deals it searched, at up to a million positions each, it proved 59% can be won; that counts only the deals it proved, so the real share is at least that. With Winnable on, in the menu beside New deal, every new board is a deal the solver has proved can be won. Hint asks the same solver for a winning line before it suggests a move.
Is there a daily Mrs. Mop game?
Yes. Mrs. Mop has a daily board, the same deal for everyone that day, dealt the way a Winnable board is. You need to be logged in to play it.
